Cultural diversity is difficult to quantify, but a good indication is thought to be a count of the number of languages spoken in a region or in the world as a whole. There are currently 7,111 known languages spoken by people around the world, according to Ethnologue, widely considered to be the most extensive catalogue of the languages of the world. These languages are dynamic and living. With modernization, sadly, a third of these languages face the risk of extinction.
