Abstract

This article explores the transformative journey of implementing agile methodologies within the global patent department at Electrolux. Faced with significant structural and organizational challenges, the department embarked on a path of continuous improvement, IP strategy development, and organizational evolution through agile and lean project management. Key findings highlight the profound impact of agile and lean practices on enhancing team collaboration, fostering a culture of openness and continuous learning, and significantly improving the efficiency and effectiveness of IP management. The introduction of agile roles, ceremonies, and tools not only addressed immediate operational and organizational inefficiencies but also instilled a mindset shift towards innovation and proactive problem-solving. The challenges encountered included overcoming initial skepticism, aligning diverse international teams, and integrating agile and lean methods with traditional corporate structures. However, through persistent effort, external coaching, and a commitment to cultural change, the patent department successfully navigated these obstacles, resulting in measurable improvements in IP portfolio management, stakeholder engagement, and overall departmental performance.
