Nishat Ruiter, General Counsel, TED Conferences, USA
Nishat Ruiter is General Counsel of TED conferences, a non profit organization that believes passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. Through creativity, and a deep respect for TED's mission, Nishat's work is centered on ensuring that TED's legal requirements are met through a combination of practical and creative solutions that meets its needs, while still retaining the authentic TED voice across every area where possible. She manages the legal issues with respect to TED's licensing, partnerships, TM, brand protection, TED's code of conduct, data privacy, copyright, transactions and all corporate legal matters. Prior to TED, she worked as Associate General Counsel where she spent ten years in a variety of roles including managing legal issues on all marketing and advertising, M&A integration, and led the North American legal team responsible for the legal review of $1B/year in licensing transactions at CA Technologies. She also worked as Managing Counsel at LivePerson, provided in house counsel legal support to Chubb Insurance, Binary Tree.com and Capco. She is a visiting guest lecturer at Fordham Law School (New York) since 2013, faculty for the Practicing Law Institute, and has served on the Editorial Board of the International In-house Counsel Journal (London). Inspired by a Bahá’í perspective on things, she loves resolving the most complex problems with an elegant solution, but always with coffee on hand. She enjoys music, tennis, hosting Spiritual Cafes in her community to foster meaningful conversations, and finding connectedness with people from all walks of life. Mat Hughes, Managing Director, AlixPartners UK LLP, UK
Mat Hughes is a Managing Director in AlixPartners’ European competition practice, which is part of a broader litigation practice. He has over 25 years of experience as an anti-trust economist and in dealing with UK and EC competition authorities and specialist utility regulators in relation to all aspects of competition law. Who’s Who Legal describes Mat as a “proactive and user- friendly expert with a wealth of experience before the regulators”. Mat started his career as an economist at the UK Office of Fair Trading, and until March 2013 was Chief Economist at Ashurst LLP. Mat has worked on a diverse range of mergers, including over 30 Phase 2 mergers and a large number of Phase 1 mergers, including acting for Ashtead in relation to the Ashtead/Lion Trackhire merger referred to in his presentation. Mat has written widely on the economics of merger control, including the Third Edition of UK Merger Control: Law and Practice, November 2016. Mat has acted on wide range of other competition law matters including: - as an independent expert for two international car companies in relation to various car part cartels; - in a damages action involving pay-for-delay pharmaceutical agreements; - acted for claimants in relation to the polyurethane foam cartel, now settled; - acting as an independent expert in relation to the European Commission’s investigations of the credit default swap market, which has now been closed without an infringement finding despite the issuing of a statement of objections; - acting for British Gas as an independent expert in relation to the first-ever customer-led appeal of a price control decision to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA);? - acting for HSBC in the CMA’s market investigation into retail banking ; and? - acting for Direct Accident Management in the CMA’s private motor insurance inquiry, where we persuaded the CMA not to impose price controls in relation to credit hire services.

Beatrice Roxburgh, Senior Tutor, The University of Law, UK
Beatrice Roxburgh is an experienced competition law practitioner, with a career spanning from private practice in two of the City's pre-eminent competition law firms, to competition law enforcement, followed by 15 years as senior in-house competition counsel with BT Group plc, and joining the University of Law in March 2018 to teach competition law. In that time, she has led a variety of cases and investigations in-house at BT, overseen dawn raids as a competition law enforcer, and in private practice advised major corporates, government and public bodies on all aspects of European and UK anti-trust law (including its application to international mergers, joint ventures and other transactions). At the University of Law she aims to give our future practitioner the benefit of her experience and kindle the enthusiasm of the next generation of competition lawyers.

Annette Magnusson, Secretary General, Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Sweden
Annette Magnusson is Secretary General of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC). Annette Magnusson joined the SCC from Mannheimer Swartling Advokatbyrå (Stockholm) in 2010. At Mannheimer Swartling, Ms. Magnusson was involved in international arbitration and strategic issues involving the dispute resolution practice. Previously she headed strategic planning of knowledge management at Baker &McKenzie in Sweden. Ms. Magnusson was SCC legal counsel and later SCC Deputy Secretary General from 1998 to 2005. Ms. Magnusson holds a number of external appointments, including: ? Board member and controller of the Swedish Anti-Corruption Institute; ? Member of the Research Panel for Arbitration Law at the Stockholm Centre for Commercial Law; ? Member of the Advisory Board of the Stockholm International Hearing Centre. Ms Magnusson earned her LLM at the Stockholm University in 1998 and her BA/BSc at the University of Gothenburg in 1991. She is the author or editor of several publications on international arbitration, a frequent speaker on international arbitration and the development of legal services on a global level, and a dedicated thought leader. Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce
The Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC) was established in 1917 and is part of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. Every year parties from as many as 30-40 jurisdictions appear before the the SCC. The SCC is also the second largest institution globally for treaty-based investment disputes under its own rules. The SCC was recognized in the 1970's as a neutral centre for the resolution of East West trade disputes, and has since expanded its services in international commercial arbitration and emerged as one of the most important and frequently used arbitration institutions.
Simon Chisholm, Vice President, Charles River Associates, UK
Simon Chisholm is Vice President in CRA’s Competition Practice. He provides economic advice on both UK, EU and global mergers, vertical restraints, assessments of alleged abusive conduct, and regulatory submissions. Prior to joining CRA, Simon spent over five years at the Competition and Markets Authority and Office of Fair Trading, where he directed the team of economists analysing UK mergers. Simon has also previously been a Senior Civil Servant at the Department of Business responsible for directing the economic analysis for UK consumer and competition policy.

Anders Arvidsson, CEO, Parallel North IP, Sweden
Anders Arvidsson, has well over two decades of experience in developing, valuing and monetizing patent assets in the corporate world. As a market maker, Mr. Arvidsson has been one of the pioneers in creating the marketplace for IP transactions, which has helped to protect companies’ strategic product positions and maximize the value of their intellectual property. Ian White has been the Chief Legal Officer and/or Company Secretary for both listed & major private companies. Cécile Kavalses, General Counsel Benelux & The Nordics, Atos, Netherlands
After having been graduated with a Master's degree in Business Law from “Université Paris XI” and “HEC”, and having been admitted to the Bar, Cecile worked for different IT Legal Departments’ within Air France and then Oracle. She joined Atos in 2006 first as a Corporate Lawyer. Cecile took over the lead of the Corporate Affairs Legal Department in 2009, where she was responsible for the corporate legal matters of the listed company, governance, company law, compliance with stock exchange markets regulations and financing. In 2012, she was appointed Chief of Staff of the Group General Counsel. In 2013, she was appointed General Counsel for India, Middle East and Africa. She recently moved to the Netherlands in 2015 as General Counsel for Benelux and The Nordics. Christian Haitz studied law at the universities of Freiburg i.Br. und Lausanne. Additionally, he completed the LL.M program in international IP law at TU Dresden and Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg. He is admitted to the bar in Germany, and has finalized his Executive MBA at Lorange / Ashridge in 2017. As Senior Group Counsel, Christian Haitz is advising TEKA's holding company and all three business divisions. Before JOINING TEKA, he has built up the Legal Department for JTI's Swiss market and production organization.
